Turning Meaningful Clothing into Heirloom Quilts

Hi, I’m Kayla!

I was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where I still live with my husband and our two boys.

I’ve been quilting for over 20 years, continuing the tradition passed down from my mom and grandmother. What began as a family craft grew into a lifelong practice of creating quilts for friends, babies, and family members.

For a long time quilting lived quietly alongside my full-time career and growing family. But in 2022, after years of making quilts for people close to me, a few former customers reached out asking for t-shirt quilts. Those projects sparked an idea that had been sitting in the back of my mind for years: maybe this craft could become something more.

Today I create custom memory quilts that transform meaningful clothing into heirlooms meant to be used, loved, and passed down. Every quilt is designed and sewn in my Baton Rouge studio, carrying forward the same care and tradition I learned from my mom and grandmother.

When I’m not quilting, I’m usually with my family, working my full-time job, or running around Baton Rouge training for my next race or competition. I’ve completed five half marathons, one full marathon, a Hyrox and a handful of sprint triathlons—mostly for the social aspect, post-run festivities and a good photo at the finish line. If you see me running around town, give me a honk and a wave!

My Approach

Quilts are meant to be used and loved, not stored away. When I create a memory quilt, my goal is to preserve the shirts and clothing that carry meaning while designing something that will hold up to everyday life.

Every piece is stabilized, cut, and arranged with care so the graphics and memories they represent are preserved as beautifully as possible. The result is a quilt that feels both personal and lasting — something meant to live on your couch or bed and eventually be passed down.
